Each year the local council in Bormio , close various mountain passes on different days to cars so cyclists can have a peaceful ride up the climbs and then drop down without the worry of being “tooted” by the edgy car owner.

Roll out @ 10am – todays route will take us to bend number two of the Stelvio pass to give you a tease and we will left turn and head up towards the The Cancano Lake. This is 7km climb and stunning , it’s not a brute but a good steady strong climb hitting 10% on a odd occasion. When we reach the top we will loop around the late and head for the Cafe. After a rest , we will drop down and head for Bormio 2000, a 8km climb which is a grind but has a great view at the top,
Saturday
Breakfast
Roll out @ 10am – you will have the chance of a double ascent of the famous Stelvio or just the one side it’s 100% up to you no pressure.
Option 1) We will climb the Stelvio pass from Bormio and as you close in at the top you can take a left turn into Switzerland via the Umbrail Pass. This is a narrow pass and particularly technical so needs extra care. At the base we will be waiting for you to guide you around the back of Switzerland to the base of the Stelvio via Prato. This is the harder route up the Stelvio, but it’s more scenic with a few more cafe stops along the way!!
Option 2) Is to omit the left turn up the Stelvio previously mentioned, and drop down the other side and route round via Switzerland and climb up the Umbrail Pass meeting the Stelvio.
Option 3) Climb the Stelvio from Bormio and relax at the top !
Sunday
Roll out @ 10am – we will roll around the corner and start the climb of the Gavia (traffic free) , the first 12.5 km to Santa Caterina is a tough grind up , rolling but has 11% in it.
