The Cento Sportive
Remember the days before Covid, they seem such a long time ago so does the 100mile Sportive we organised pre 2020, well it’s back for 2025 and hopefully annually. Like our pre Covid event we have merged the tough parts of our two Sportives (Spring Onion and Cobham Sportive) then added a few more miles into the mix to create The Cento Sportive.
A 100 mile event is a milestone for many riders , I remember when I completed my first 100 mile event (many years ago) it was tough but very satisfying to say the least. The Cento Sportive takes in the first 50/55 miles of the Spring Onion , backed up by 40 miles of the Cobham Sportive and that little extra!
Please note these details are provisional but pretty much 90% of the course has been detailed below
Those of you who have ridden either of our events will know that they are not a soft tap around Surrey and West Sussex. Our combination course will take you through Effingham Junction and the long leg sapping drag up to Whitedown, where you will drop down and cross the main road into the lanes. You will wind your way around the quite lanes to eventually reach Wisbrough Green where the first fee station will be located (The Old Mill Cafe). After topping up on food and drink , you will head to Bedham Hill , this was not in the 2024 Spring Onion but added in for this event to toughen you up , it ramps up to 16% at certain points so be where . Those who have ridden the Spring Onion will be recognise the return trip but as you close in on Silent Pool you will right turn and head to the back of Shere. This the first drag takes you round the back of Shere and then onto the peak of Pitch Hill then leading down to Ewuhurst. After a flat recovery section you will be faced with Barhatch Lane (21%) . The good news is your efforts will be rewarded with a feed station at the top – phew !
After a well deserved refuel you will ride through the beautiful lanes of Farley Green and up and over he level crossing heading you to the “dog leg” and passing Silent Pool. Riders will then head through Holmbury St Mary and eventually left turn up Tanhurst Lane , 17% onto Leith Hill (left). As you continue a slight up hill grind on Leith Hill , riders will take a right turn onto Sheepless Lane and loop around Friday Street bringing you back to the shallow part of Leith Hill + more to come
