The Stelvio earned its place in the hearts of the ‘tifosi’ as far back as 1953 when Fausto Coppi attacked Hugo Koblet before going on to win the stage and claim his fifth and final Giro win in Milan. The Mortirolo, Lance Armstrong reputedly said it was the hardest climb he had ever done, made its first appearance in the Giro in 1990, and is part of the long route Gran Fondo Stelvio Santini.
We have taken over 250 riders to experience the many emotions that these climbs have to offer. Dudley Samuels has personally climbed the Stelvio 11 times, and every time was even more exciting than the time before. The SteIvio awaits!

“I absolutely loved the trip and wouldn’t change a thing (except perhaps my bike! And my ability! ) “My first trip with European Cycle Events and I have to say it wont be my last! Plenty of information, plenty of support, lots of fabulous cycling and amazing fun! A great group of people taking part in a great Gran Fondo . Some fantastic climbs and fantastic views. The Hotel was good and the company great. I shall be going again next year for sure!”
“Fantastic event, thoroughly recommended. Extremely well organised by Dudley. Will definitely come again”
“I thoroughly enjoyable Stelvio Sabtini trip with a superbly located hotel. Bike accommodation, food and the event on the day was marvellous and fortunately the weather was on our side. This is my second gran Fondo Stelvio Santini and I highly recommend it.”
“Whilst I sit at gate E26 at Milan airport I have time to reflect on my trip to Bormio to ride the Stelvio. I have dreamt of riding the Stelvio for nearly 40 years when I first knew of it watching the Giro as a young racing cyclist and now having ridden it, it surpassed all expectations I had. The area is just totally jaw dropingly amazing. The Stelvio is just amazing to ride, if not hard, but us cyclists love a challenge and a challenge it is. Dudley, what a great geezer he is!! You can either go out on the organised rides on the lead up to the Gran Fondo or do your own thing. Anything goes. Very relaxed and very enjoyable and I thank Dudley for giving me that opportunity to ride this mountain. 5 stars for organisation and execution of the trip.”
One week on it is hard to believe that this time last Sunday I was just taking the final hairpin at the top of the Stelvio Pass. Looking down from the summit, over the last of the spring snow and down hundreds of metres of tight winding bends and dizzying ravines, is a view that will last a long, long time. As will memories of the rest of the tour, thanks to Dudley’s local knowledge (guided rides included) and excellent company. Accompanied by a great crowd of people, staying in first rate accommodation (with excellent food), and all built around a sportive for the ages, this was a marvellous trip that I would recommend to anyone with a love of cycling and / or Italy. 5 stars all the way!
