Did you miss out on the Maratona ? How about taking on the GS Alpi which is the same weekend as the Maratona. This event takes on two of the most iconic Giro d’Italia climbs , the Gavia and Mortirolo. The two climbs are known for very different reasons. The Mortirolo can be climbed three different ways , and depends which distance you choose depends on how difficult the Mortirolo will be for you. Nevertheless I have ridden it two off the three ways and to say both ways are extremely difficult is an under statement. The route via Mono is 17km the longest route and has 4km @10% section and is the easier side I am told – when has there ever been easy climbing !
The Gavia is famous for Andy Hampsten’s iconic photo showing him coming over the top in the snow to be come the one and only American to win the Giro to date. Riders will taken on the Gavia via the iconic side which is 20km , with the last 4km hurting at 8% – 9% , the upside is the decent down to Bormio which I can highly recommend !
In conclusion you will have a fantastic ride no matter which distance you choose may that be 141km / 110km / 45 km.
We will be staying in a 4 star hotel in the town centre so very close to the start / finish.
