What is Dolomite Bike Day , well it’s a chance for cyclists to take on mountain passes in the Dolomites CAR FREE ! It’s not a race or Gran Fondo it’s and event that atttracts 1000’s of riders to start and finish when they like and go round as many times as they like – total freedom.
The course covers just 51km but don’t be fooled , you will take on 3 Dolomite passes those being Campalongo , Falzarego and the Valparoloa . The Dolomites Bike Day is a true cycling celebration. You can decide to start and finish the loop from wherever is most convenient. Just get on the road and enjoy the same route used not only by the professionals in the Giro d’Italia, but also where thousands of cyclists of all levels ride the Maratona dles Dolomites, one of the largest single-day events for cyclists. You’ll be able to experience and enjoy the Valparola, the Falzarego, and the Campolongo passes on closed roads and without any motorised traffic. Now for the important stats for some riders , 51km , 3 passes , 1370 elevation , average 3 hours.
So what are you waiting for ?
Accommodation
We will be staying at the 3-star Belsit Hotel – HB Basis. I have used this hotel for the past 10 years and the food and service is excellent and an ideal starting point for the event. You will roll out circa 1km before you start the first climb of the day the Campalongo.
Thursday
Fly into Marco Polo Airport and board the coach for the journey to Corvara – it’s about 3 hours with a break just after half way. – ensure you are though customs by 13:00 , the coach leaves at 13:30 as you exit arrivals there’s a cafe to your right – we meet there ( the 1st cafe )
On our arrival at the hotel we will check in and just before our evening meal we will gather in the bar and a full introduction of staff (European Cycle Events)
Friday
Roll out – Todays route will see us take on a circa 60km route doing the reverse of the Sella Ronda , therefor taking on the backside of the Campalongo. The climbs will be , Passo Gardina , Sella , Pordoi and Campalongo , finishing with a great drop down in to town. Personally the toughest climb off these four is the Passo Pordoi where Mr Campagnolo had a light bulb moment for the rear mech’.

Roll out for the Dolomite Bike day as described above.
