The town of Bormio may not set alarm bells ringing  but when you then mention The Stelvio Pass , riders eyes light up. Bormio is the home town of the famous Stelvio Pass where numerous battles have been fought during the Giro d’Italia. Nevertheless  Bormio does just revolve around the Stelvio the famous Gavia Pass is literally around the corner. This pass is famous for the amount of snow that was falling when the only American to win the Giro Andy Hampsten come into view and then the iconic picture was created and hangs in the cafe at the top – you have just got to see it.

It does not stop there the famous and brutal Mortirolo is just down the valley road with two options to climb , hard and very hard ! – to put it into perspective Lance Armstrong has often said it’s the hardest climb he has done and he was drugged up !  To compliment these well known Giro climbs , there’s also the Umbrail Pass , Bormio 2000 , Foscango and recently seen in the 2020 Giro the Concano Lake.

We will be staying in the superb 5 star hotel – Gran Hotel Terme Nestled in the heart of Bormio and a stones throw from the Stelvio pass. Our hotel has stunning rooms , amazing food , wine for all tastes , a wellness centre , SPA and of course bike friendly. After a hard but enjoyable day in the saddle return to your hotel and enjoy a swim ,  SPA and a Sports massage what a great way to end the day.
